VIVE LE CLOOB
With the 1st XV playing in the National Medical Schools Cup and against other University and Academy sides, the 2nd XV playing in the National 2nd XVs Cup and against intra-mural sides and a strong social set-up, UBMSRFC is for everyone. Established in 1958 it remains one of the oldest and most prestigious medical school rugby clubs in the country. Twice National Champions and Twice champions of the Brum Varsity over the University of Birmingham 1st XV, it has much to celebrate. The 2nd XV or 'Airsharks' has also gone from strength to strength in recent years beating the University 3rd XV, the University Freshers and numerous medical schools' 1st XVs. All whilst fielding players of a range of abilities from School 1st XV and Academy players to players never to have played the game before university. Vive Le Cloob!
AIDAN 'Westy' BUTLER
Fun fact: Since the age of 12 Aidan has been the tallest person in his South Wales village.
Since recovering from a minor soft tissue injury early in the 2017/18 season and having returned from a sabbatical to pursue and amateur acting career, angry man and high-ball enthusiast Aidan Butler played a prominent role in the 1st XV during the 2017/18 season as 'last year’s vice-captain.'
Convinced that Wales are still a Tier 1 rugby nation and easily noticeable due to his rousing team talks Westy will lead the club from the coveted role of chairman during the 2018/19 season.
1st XV Captain
ADAM 'Virgin Mary' MACKIE
Position: Number 8
Leadership skills: sometimes takes fitness
This stern looking man and formal "England North" prospect is the second scouser to lead the 1st XV in four years. As aggressive on the rugby pitch as he is nervous talking to girls and having spent significant time during the 2016/17 season playing second fiddle to Elton, he’s glad to finally have his chance to start for the 1st XV and will lead them during the 2018/19 season.
2nd XV Captain
LEWIS 'Bastien' TURNER
Position: Centre, Back Row
