Camp Hill 2s vs UBMSRFC

Final score 12-28

Match report:

The day was Saturday the 9th October. We were to face Camp Hill 2s in our second league game of the season. It had been three weeks since our last match due to us having to forfeit to Luctonians on Christmas Day and then Stafford suffering from a nasty case of not wanting it.

Due to the usual bout of fresher’s flu being passed around, the warm up was sluggish and was largely dominated by Clare’s coughing. We soaked up a lot of early pressure after a slow start from the boys. Shock. Then suddenly, from out of nowhere, our new 10 Fergus dinks over the cheekiest of chips before regathering and offloading to Phstephen. Our number 8 turns on full Ardie Savea mode and quite literally runs over 4 of the Camp Hill defenders to score a ridiculous try in the corner. A “silly good” conversion from the touch line by Fergus causes the crowd to erupt. Apart from Vardon who is fuming. 7-0 UBMSRFC

Minutes later Fergus flies up out of the defensive line and the Camp Hill fly half, who looked more like a prop than any of our front row, very kindly delivers the ball into our 10’s hands who runs half the pitch and scores under the sticks. 14-0 UBMSRFC.

Despite the formidable combo of Frank the Crank and Not Gibbo in the scrum, we were struggling to secure our set piece. When we finally did, a slick back’s move saw Fresher Joe score his first try for the 1s on debut. Joe at first looked delighted, but soon realised what awaited him at the social that night. 5PC… 21-0 UBMSRFC

Throughout the first half we’d noticed a couple of their lads wearing 1st team shorts…But it was only when they brought on an absolute brick shithouse of a centre did it confirm they clearly didn’t have a 1s game that day. Bastards. An extremely boring line out drive saw Camp Hill get one back before the break. 21-7 at HT.

A series of penalties against us lead to another Camp Hill try. Thankfully their 10 couldn’t kick for shit so we stayed over 1 try in the lead. 21-12.

Late in the game Camp Hill spilt the ball on our line and it fell to Yoon who shanked an exit kick that landed on our 22. The glorious bounce of the rugby ball meant it landed in Zizou’s arms who thread a grubber kick up the field. Yoon redeemed himself by running onto this and scoring the try that would seal the game for us. 28-12 UBMSRFC.

Special mentions: - Fresher Joe, Not Gibbo, Prawn, Fresher Luke for all starting their first game for the 1s - Sheep, Phstephen, Jesus, Bom, and Lanny - immense defensive effort from you boys - Zizou, for playing with a fractured jaw for 30 minutes - Clare, for being ignored by the ref as lino - Fergus. You’re quite good - Meme. For being a meme

Balls to Camp Hill.
